Chelsea saw their push for Champions League qualification stall as they were held to a goalless draw by Brentford.
Coming off the back of their midweek victory over Tottenham, Enzo Maresca was tipped to rotate his squad — but the starting lineup still raised eyebrows.
Cole Palmer, Nicolas Jackson, and Levi Colwill were all left out of the initial XI, while Christopher Nkunku and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall were given rare chances to impress.
Brentford created the more dangerous opportunities throughout. Mikkel Damsgaard looked sharp early on, and Sepp van den Berg missed a golden chance in the second half, heading into the turf and over from close range.
Jackson came on after the break and added some urgency to Chelsea’s attack, but the introduction of Cole Palmer midway through the half didn’t change the dynamic much.
Palmer did have a late chance to seal the win, yet his curling shot drifted just over the crossbar in the dying moments.
