Leeds United forward Brenden Aaronson has praised his side’s resilience after scoring in the 2–1 win against West Ham United at Elland Road on Friday night — a victory that lifted Daniel Farke’s men into the Premier League’s top half.

Aaronson opened the scoring inside three minutes, reacting first after Alphonse Areola’s save from Jayden Bogle’s cross, before Joe Rodon powered home a header from a corner to double the lead midway through the first half. Despite Mateus Fernandes pulling one back late on, Leeds held firm for three valuable points.

The American’s early strike set the tone for a high-tempo display that showcased Leeds’ aggression and energy. Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, Aaronson emphasised how much the result meant to the squad after a difficult run of results.

Aaronson and Rodon after the game against West Ham

“It is huge for us. We have been a little unlucky with results. To stick it out and get the result is huge for us. I have been working hard at it and last week I got unlucky with one, but that is how football is. I am proud of myself.

It shows how strong of a group we are. We were unlucky with the result [against Burnley], but we bounced back. We have got to keep going from here. The fans were fantastic today and they were behind us all game.” — Brenden Aaronson, speaking to Sky Sports

Teammate Joe Rodon, who scored Leeds’ second, also reflected on the importance of bouncing back from recent disappointment.

“It was important to show a reaction after last weekend. It was important to come out the traps early, and I’m delighted with the three points.

I think every team is difficult in this league. I’m a bit frustrated to concede at the end, but overall delighted with the three points. It was important to keep that momentum and make it difficult for teams to come here.” — Joe Rodon, speaking to Sky Sports

Farke’s side have now won three of their last five league fixtures, with Aaronson’s resurgence proving pivotal in Leeds’ improving form.

Aaronson’s numbers highlighted both end product and efficiency. His xG of 0.57 reflected constant involvement in dangerous areas, while his creative metrics (0.26 xA and two key passes) underlined his growing influence on Leeds’ attacking play.

Our View

Under Daniel Farke, Leeds have found balance between aggression and discipline — and Aaronson epitomised that blend against West Ham. His pressing intensity, early movement, and sharp link-up play with Jayden Bogle repeatedly disrupted the visitors’ right side.

Rodon, too, embodied the collective commitment Farke demands. A goal, six clearances, and his vocal leadership anchored a back line that continues to mature with each game. Leeds’ ability to respond after setbacks — both within matches and between them — is becoming a defining feature under Farke’s watch.

Key Insights

  • Leeds have won three of their last five Premier League matches.
  • Aaronson’s xG of 0.57 was his highest since joining the club.
  • Rodon’s goal was Leeds’ third from a set piece this season.
  • Farke’s side have now scored first in five of their last six matches at Elland Road.

What’s Next

Leeds United travel to the Amex Stadium to face Brighton on 1 November, aiming to build on their improving form under Farke. West Ham United, meanwhile, return to London to host Newcastle United on 2 November, with pressure mounting on Nuno Espírito Santo after another defeat.
