Bournemouth's 2-1 second-half comeback victory over Arsenal on Saturday has left Mikel Arteta's side with just four points separating them from Manchester City in the Premier League. This win marked another milestone for Andoni Iraola, who has overseen a remarkable turnaround since taking over Bournemouth in 2023. The Cherries, who now sit eighth in the table with 50 points, have exceeded their previous season’s tally with three games still to play.

Iraola’s Post-Match Reflection: A Vital Win for Bournemouth

With Aston Villa and Manchester City up next, Iraola acknowledged the importance of the win over Arsenal as they head into a tough run of fixtures. Reflecting on the match, Iraola admitted that his side needed this result after a frustrating loss in their previous outing.

“I think we needed this one. Given our schedule—Arsenal, Manchester City and Villa—getting the points from Arsenal was vital. We missed a couple of chances the other day, and we needed this one to go our way.” — Andoni Iraola

Iraola also highlighted the impact of set-pieces in the second half, which proved crucial for Bournemouth in their victory. Despite conceding the opener, his side played well and capitalized on set-piece opportunities to turn the game around.

“The key was the set plays in the second half. In the end, in these close games, making the difference with set plays was the key to taking the three points.” — Andoni Iraola

Dean Huijsen's Standout Performance

Dean Huijsen, who scored the opener for Bournemouth, has been one of their most consistent performers this season. The young center-back picked up his fourth Player of the Month award in the Premier League, cementing his place as one of the standout talents.

Iraola’s Future: ‘He Ticks Every Box’ – Jamie Redknapp

Iraola’s success has not gone unnoticed, with Jamie Redknapp, former Bournemouth player, praising the manager’s impact on the team. Redknapp believes that Iraola’s ability to improve players and get results could make him an attractive option for bigger clubs in the Premier League.

“He came to Bournemouth and did so well so quickly. There would be a lot of clubs looking and thinking, he ticks every box. Iraola improves players day in and day out, that’s all you could ask from a manager.” — Jamie Redknapp

While there are reports of interest from clubs like Tottenham Hotspur, Bournemouth’s board is reportedly happy with Iraola’s work and are eager for him to stay.

Key Call-Outs:

  • Bournemouth handed Arsenal their second home defeat of the season with a 2-1 comeback victory.
  • Andoni Iraola’s managerial impact has led Bournemouth to 50 points, surpassing their previous season’s tally.
  • Dean Huijsen scored the opener for Bournemouth and picked up his fourth Player of the Month award.
  • Iraola has been praised by Jamie Redknapp for his ability to improve players and his impact at Bournemouth.
  • Arsenal will need to quickly recover from this defeat as they prepare for their second-leg clash against PSG.

What’s Next for Bournemouth and Arsenal?

With the win over Arsenal, Bournemouth will look to cut the seven-point gap between them and Aston Villa, who currently sit in eighth place. Iraola’s side will now face Aston Villa next, looking to build on this important victory.

For Arsenal, the loss leaves them in a fragile position ahead of their crucial Champions League semi-final second leg against PSGMikel Arteta and his side will need to regroup and find a way to bounce back, with redemption on their minds.

Thicks what box? He hasn't showed that he's a good manager, he has a very good squad, 4/5 potential players that could start for any top 6 team.
