Bernardo Silva warns rivals as Man City confidence grows

Bernardo Silva believes Manchester City are only just getting started this season, issuing a pointed warning to their rivals after insisting the squad’s best football is still to come.

City’s campaign has been far from flawless, marked by inconsistency and disruption, but qualification for the Champions League knockout stages has kept them firmly alive on all four competitive fronts. Following a crucial win over Galatasaray, Silva made it clear that internal belief at the Etihad remains strong.

Speaking after City secured a top-eight finish in Europe, Silva acknowledged that Pep Guardiola’s squad overhaul has taken time to bed in. The club have added 12 new players over the past 13 months as part of a deliberate rebuild following a rare trophyless season.

“Yeah, it’s pretty clear that the club decided to go for the renovation of the squad,” Silva explained. “A squad that won a lot, but needed maybe some new blood. They went for it, and it takes time.”

From Silva’s perspective, patience is already being rewarded. He believes City are in a far stronger position now than earlier in the campaign, both tactically and mentally.

“What I feel is that this team has a lot of potential to be much, much better than what it is now,” he added. “We’re definitely in a much better place than we were three months ago.”

Silva was also quick to highlight how returning players could accelerate City’s progress during the decisive phase of the season. Injuries have disrupted Guardiola’s rhythm, particularly in central areas.

The midfielder pointed to the importance of Nico González’s potential return alongside Rodri, while Ruben Dias’ leadership at the back remains sorely missed.

“When you can put together Nico and Rodri it can be really important,” Silva said. “When we recover Ruben at the back, it gives us more leadership and character.”

Those additions, combined with the energy of the club’s new signings, have convinced Silva that City’s ceiling remains high.

Erling Haaland’s form has also been under the spotlight, but Silva insists there has been no panic inside the dressing room. The striker ended a nine-game open-play drought against Galatasaray, a moment Silva believes will reignite his season.

“At the beginning of the season, everyone was saying it was Haaland FC,” Silva said. “Now he doesn’t score anymore? In football, it doesn’t work that way.”

Silva stressed that short scoring dips are normal and fully expected.

“We know the player Erling is. He’ll come back. And again, he is back and I’m pretty sure that in the next games, he will be really important for us.”

Having followed City closely over recent months, the shift in tone feels significant. Performances may not yet reflect peak Guardiola-era dominance, but belief inside the camp appears to be strengthening as the season enters its decisive stretch.

However, it remains too early to draw firm conclusions. Much will depend on how quickly injured leaders return and whether City can maintain momentum across multiple competitions.

What is clear is that City themselves believe the danger period for their rivals is only just beginning.

City will now turn their attention to domestic competitions and the Champions League knockout rounds, where squad depth and momentum will be tested. The coming weeks are expected to see key players return from injury, potentially allowing Guardiola to settle his strongest XI for the first time this season.
