Brentford have placed a £70 million valuation on in-form striker Igor Thiago, according to Brazilian journalist Felipe Silva, as interest grows from Aston Villa, Tottenham and several top European clubs. The 24-year-old has become one of the Premier League’s most productive Brazilian forwards this season, earning admiration not only from domestic rivals but also figures such as Carlo Ancelotti, who has reportedly taken note of his explosive rise.

Silva reports that while Brentford do not plan to sell the striker in January, the club are preparing for formal offers due to his outstanding form and age profile. Tottenham are said to have enquired about price structure as interest intensifies, placing them “a little ahead” of Aston Villa at this stage. Newcastle, once mentioned among the Premier League clubs monitoring the player, no longer appear in the latest round of contact.

Thiago’s form under Keith Andrews has been nothing short of exceptional, turning Brentford’s No.9 into one of Europe’s standout performers outside the traditional elite. Brentford’s valuation reflects not only output but also his long-term contract, which runs until 2029 with an option for an extra year — a position of strength that allows the Bees to dictate terms.

European attention grows as Thiago’s numbers explode

Thiago’s breakthrough campaign has become one of the stories of the season. His blend of strength, movement and clinical finishing has transformed Brentford’s attacking identity and attracted growing interest from Europe.

La Liga and Serie A sides are among those tracking him, with Ancelotti understood to admire the forward’s adaptability and capacity to influence games outside the box. Tottenham’s enquiry, meanwhile, signals a serious attempt to accelerate long-term squad planning, with the club seeking a reliable goalscorer.

Aston Villa, always forward-thinking under Unai Emery, remain attentive as they explore options to deepen their attacking rotation ahead of European knockout football. Villa have monitored Thiago for months, but Tottenham’s early movement gives them a slight advantage heading into January.

Thiago’s goal return — 12 goals in 16 games — places him among the Premier League’s elite this season. His minutes-to-goal ratio shows a striker scoring with efficiency and confidence, and his durability has allowed him to maintain form through a demanding winter schedule.

Brentford are right to set a high price — and interest will only grow

Having tracked Thiago’s development this season, it’s clear Brentford are fully justified in placing a £70m valuation on him. He offers profile, productivity and age upside — the three traits that command premium fees in the current market. Although some reports suggest £70m may deter certain suitors, it’s worth questioning whether that figure will stand firm once Villa, Spurs or European clubs formalise their interest. Proven goalscorers of Thiago’s calibre rarely remain available for long.

From Brentford’s perspective, selling mid-season risks destabilising an attack built around his movement and physical presence. Their reluctance is understandable; however, privately they expect at least one club to test their resolve.

Tottenham’s enquiry hints at strategic forward planning, and Villa’s project under Emery has the ambition to support such a signing. But the player’s next steps may hinge on Champions League qualification prospects — a factor Brentford cannot currently offer.

Key Insights

  • Brentford want £70m for Igor Thiago amid rising interest.
  • Tottenham are slightly ahead of Aston Villa in early enquiries.
  • European giants, including Ancelotti’s camp, are monitoring him.
  • Brentford do not plan to sell in January but expect offers.
  • Thiago has 12 goals in 16 matches this season.

What’s Next

At this stage, it feels unlikely that Brentford will allow Igor Thiago to leave in January. Even with top clubs circling, few are in a financial position to spend £70m midway through the season — especially sides like Tottenham, who invested heavily in the summer and would almost certainly need to sell before they can buy.

Beyond the financial reality, Brentford arguably need Thiago more than any suitor right now. His goals are central to their survival prospects and attacking structure, and letting him go mid-campaign would create a hole they cannot realistically fill in the winter market.

Interest will continue to build, and enquiries will keep arriving, but unless a dramatic shift occurs, Thiago looks far more likely to finish the season at Brentford before any major move is revisited in the summer.

That’s way too high, but I do agree that Brentford won’t sell, unless someone really pays that price. Remember how long it took to sell Wissa and Mbeumo - don’t think Jan will be the month for Brentford to sell a player - and not just a player - someone who bangs goals
