Chelsea Targets Aston Villa's Morgan Rogers for Summer Transfer
Chelsea is reportedly planning a stunning move for Aston Villa's dynamic star, Morgan Rogers, as part of their strategy to bolster their squad in the upcoming summer transfer window. The 22-year-old has had a breakthrough season in the Premier League, catching the attention of top clubs across Europe. With eight goals and eight assists in league play, Rogers’ impressive performances have made him a key player for Villa this season.
Morgan Rogers: A Career Resurgence at Aston Villa
Rogers’ journey has been anything but typical. After being released by Manchester City in 2023, his career appeared uncertain. However, he revived his form during a successful spell at Middlesbrough in the Championship, reigniting his career. Aston Villa took note of his talent and signed him for £15 million in early 2024, marking the start of a remarkable resurgence.
“He was in the second team, and trained sometimes with us, and we could see something there. But the impact he’s had in Villa, what a player, we had an exceptional player here, absolutely.” — Pep Guardiola, Manchester City Manager
Rogers’ move to Villa has proven to be a masterstroke, with the midfielder playing a pivotal role in his team’s strong Premier League performance. In addition to his domestic success, Rogers also starred in Villa’s Champions League campaign, scoring four goals and assisting two, including a memorable hat-trick against Celtic.
Chelsea’s Interest in Morgan Rogers
As one of the Premier League’s brightest young talents, it’s no surprise that Chelsea has taken notice. The Blues are reportedly keen on adding more creativity and goals to their squad, with Rogers fitting the bill perfectly. His recent form has made him a primary target for Chelsea ahead of the summer transfer window.
However, Aston Villa is unlikely to let go of the England international without a fight. Despite Chelsea’s interest, the Midlands club sees Rogers as a key player for the future. Villa’s management is determined to keep him, especially as the club looks to build a strong squad around young talents like him.

Villa’s Financial Outlook and Potential Sales
Although Villa is committed to keeping Rogers, the club could be forced into a difficult position. Villa has a high wage bill, and with several important decisions to be made in the upcoming transfer window, they may need to offload certain players to balance the books. One such player is Marcus Rashford, whose loan move from Manchester United could be made permanent, adding further pressure to Villa's financial situation.
At the time of writing, Villa sits seventh in the Premier League, just three points shy of the Champions League places. The club had hoped for a historic season, but recent setbacks—such as their Champions League elimination by PSG and a loss in the FA Cup semi-final against Crystal Palace—have dampened their chances. Despite this, Villa remains in contention for a top-four finish, which would help secure financial stability and potentially keep key players like Rogers.

Chelsea’s Summer Transfer Plans: More than Just Rogers?
While Rogers is reportedly a top target, Chelsea is also said to be eyeing other promising young talents, including Liam Delap and Dean Huijsen. The Blues have faced an up-and-down season, with an outstanding first half giving way to a slip in form, leaving them in fifth place in the Premier League. Despite the drop in their league position, Chelsea remains committed to strengthening their squad, and Rogers could be the perfect addition to their ranks.

We don't need him. We've Jadon Sancho, Mudryk is on his way back from next season. We should focus on other areas.
