Aston Villa are facing a new test this summer, with Saudi giants Al-Nassr now considering a move for Amadou Onana. The Belgian midfielder has emerged as one of the key names on their shortlist, according to journalist Ahmed Ragab.

The move comes just months after Al-Nassr lured Jhon Duran from Villa Park in a £64m deal — and the Saudi side are not done raiding Premier League clubs.

Onana Among Midfield Options for Jorge Jesus

New Al-Nassr head coach Jorge Jesus is pushing for a midfield revamp. And Onana is seen as a strong candidate to lead that rebuild.

“Onana is among the options Al-Nassr are considering to strengthen their midfield this summer,” reports Ahmed Ragab.

While other names are also being evaluated, the 24-year-old Belgian fits the physical and technical profile Jesus prefers.

Why Al-Nassr Want Onana

Onana impressed in his debut season under Unai Emery after joining from Everton for £50m. His:

  • Strong ball-carrying
  • Physical presence
  • High tackle rate
  • Aerial dominance

… made him a standout in Villa’s run to Champions League qualification.

Aston Villa May Face Pressure to Sell

Villa’s financial strategy this summer includes trimming the wage bill. The £42.5m sale of Douglas Luiz to Juventus last month was one sign of that.

Selling Onana, who is under contract until 2029, would provide a significant boost to the club’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) position.

However, Emery sees him as a key starter — and any exit would require a major bid.

Notable Al-Nassr Squad Stars

Player Position
Cristiano Ronaldo Forward
Marcelo Brozović Midfielder
Aymeric Laporte Defender
Sadio Mané Winger
Otávio Midfielder
Jhon Duran Striker (ex-Villa)

Al-Nassr’s ambition is clear — and Onana could be their next marquee addition.

Key Insights

  • Al-Nassr are targeting Aston Villa midfielder Amadou Onana
  • Jorge Jesus sees the Belgian as ideal for his midfield
  • Onana has four years left on his contract (2029)
  • Villa may need to sell to ease PSR pressure

What’s Next for Aston Villa?

If Al-Nassr follow up with a formal bid, Villa will have a major decision to make. Will they hold firm, or will PSR and squad reshaping tip the balance?

Should Aston Villa cash in on Onana or build their midfield around him?
