Aston Villa are in talks with RB Leipzig over a potential early termination of Kosta Nedeljkovic’s loan deal, as Fiorentina push to sign the defender before the transfer deadline.

According to journalist Philipp Hinze, negotiations are ongoing between all parties, with the outcome still uncertain. However, the player himself is understood to be keen on a new move, having struggled for regular minutes during his spell in Germany.

The situation has developed quickly on deadline day, with Fiorentina now emerging as the most realistic destination.

Aston Villa consider cancelling Nedeljkovic loan

Kosta Nedeljkovic joined RB Leipzig on loan last February, with the agreement due to run until the summer. His time in the Bundesliga has been limited, though, with just 17 appearances in total and only six outings this season, amounting to 297 minutes of action.

Nedeljkovic has been an unused substitute for Leipzig’s last five league matches, leaving his prospects of regular football described as “slim”. That lack of involvement has opened the door to an early exit, with Villa now discussing whether to recall the right-back.

Hinze reports that Nedeljkovic is open to a transfer and ready to leave Leipzig if an agreement can be reached to cancel the current loan.

Fiorentina push as Valencia move collapses

Italian side Fiorentina are now pushing hard to secure Nedeljkovic’s signature. Reports in Italy earlier today suggested they had turned their attention to the defender, and Hinze has confirmed that interest is concrete.

Valencia had also been in the race, according to AS, and had even reached an agreement with Aston Villa and Leipzig. However, the move collapsed due to bureaucratic complications relating to the player’s registration status and visa process, which would have taken several months to resolve.

With Valencia now out of the picture, Fiorentina appear to have a clear run — provided Villa and Leipzig can agree to end the loan early.

Player keen on fresh opportunity

From Nedeljkovic’s perspective, a move makes sense. With limited chances in Germany and the season entering a decisive phase, the defender is eager to find a club where he can play consistently and reset his momentum.

Fiorentina see him as an immediate option at right-back, while Villa would benefit from resolving a loan situation that has not delivered the intended development.

What’s next

The key decision now rests with Aston Villa and RB Leipzig. If an early termination is agreed in time, Fiorentina are ready to move quickly to complete the deal before the window shuts. If not, Nedeljkovic may be forced to see out the remainder of his loan in a reduced role.
