Mikel Arteta has explained Arsenal’s growing trend of signing players from Chelsea — after completing the £52m deal for winger Noni Madueke, their fourth signing of the summer and sixth from Stamford Bridge since Arteta took over.
Madueke follows goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, who joined earlier this summer, as well as former Chelsea teammates Jorginho, Kai Havertz, Willian, and Raheem Sterling (loan, 2024).
But Arteta insists the pattern isn’t deliberate — and simply a result of scouting top talent.
“Probably because they have some great players — and a lot of players,” said Arteta during a press conference in Singapore. — via Arsenal Media
Why Arsenal Keep Signing from Chelsea
Arsenal’s recent recruitment suggests more than just coincidence — with several Chelsea outgoings fitting Arteta’s tactical blueprint and providing Premier League-ready depth.
But the manager insists the focus is always on player fit, not the selling club:
“We try to focus on the players we want to sign, regardless of the club they are in,” Arteta said. “With Noni, I’m very, very excited.”
Noni Madueke: What He Brings to Arsenal
The 23-year-old England international adds pace, flair, and one-v-one threat to Arsenal’s flanks. While he struggled for consistency at Chelsea, Arteta believes a fresh start and better environment could unlock his full potential.
“You’ve seen the reaction of all the players as well, especially the ones who know him very well,” said Arteta. “He needs a bit of a break now, but he’ll be with us soon showing what he brings.”

Arsenal’s Summer Rebuild Continues
Madueke is the fourth new arrival at the Emirates this summer, joining Kepa, left-back Ferdi Kadıoğlu, and midfielder Alan Varela.
But Arteta made it clear that Arsenal aren’t done yet.
“There’s still a long time in the window and we are seeking still… We are short in numbers and we need to improve the depth and quality of the squad,” he said.
