Ethan Nwaneri Impresses in England Under-21s Victory as Lee Carsley Plans Close Collaboration with Arsenal on Teenager’s Development

Arsenal’s talented young star Ethan Nwaneri received praise from England Under-21 manager Lee Carsley after scoring on his first start for the national team. Nwaneri played a key role in England’s thrilling 4-2 win over Portugal at The Hawthorns on Monday.

The 18-year-old midfielder wasted no time making an impact, finding the back of the net just 10 minutes into the match with a superb curling effort from outside the box. His composure and technique were on full display as he continued his standout form from this season.

Carsley described Nwaneri's performance as “incredible,” highlighting the teenager’s growing maturity and ability to perform under pressure. Nwaneri has been making waves at Arsenal, with many fans and pundits excited by his potential. He became the youngest-ever player to feature in the Premier League for Arsenal when he appeared against Brentford in 2022 at just 15 years old.

Looking ahead, Nwaneri is now expected to be a significant part of England’s squad for the European Under-21 Championship later this summer. However, Carsley emphasized the importance of working closely with Arsenal to ensure Nwaneri’s development is managed correctly.

“We want to make sure we’re on the same page with Arsenal so his progression continues at the right pace,” he said.

"It's definitely a finish he's got,” said Carsley. “Noni's [Madueke's] got the same finish where everyone knows exactly what's going to happen, but you just cannot stop it. So you know he's going to go, touch, finish and he took his goal so well.

“He took his goal so well but we have to keep remembering he's 18, unbelievable isn't it?

“So we just have to encourage these guys, it's important the rest of the team support him as well because I'm not sure it's always going be as progressive as it is."

"But what an impression he has made. It's important we look after him and make sure that, going to the tournament in the summer, is that the right thing.

“Well obviously we'll work with Arsenal and make sure that we're on the same page."

Interesting Stats on Ethan Nwaneri:
1. Has shown strong performances in both the Premier League and the international youth scene, with a bright future ahead.
2. Became Arsenal’s youngest-ever Premier League player at 15 years and 181 days.
3. Scored his first international goal for England Under-21s in his first start.

Should Nwaneri get a call from Tuchel?
