Arsenal have begun actively monitoring one of Brazil’s most highly regarded teenage defenders, with fresh reports highlighting their interest in Corinthians centre-back Iago Machado.

According to Globo Esporte, the Premier League club have already made contact with both Corinthians and the player’s representatives as they gather information on a potential future move. While no formal negotiations are underway, the early approach underlines how quickly Machado’s reputation is growing beyond South America.

At just 16, Machado has taken a significant step in his development after being invited to train with Corinthians’ senior squad. Head coach Dorival Júnior personally approved the call-up, a clear signal of the club’s internal belief in the defender’s potential.

Those close to the club believe his performances in training have exceeded expectations, prompting discussions about registering him for senior competitions later this year.

Arsenal are not alone in tracking Machado’s progress. Ajax have also made enquiries, with both clubs approaching Corinthians and the agency that manages the teenager’s career.

Standing at 1.87 metres, Machado fits the mould of a modern centre-back. He combines physical dominance with strong technical fundamentals, reads the game well and has already shown leadership traits beyond his years. He is also a threat from set pieces, regularly contributing goals with his aerial ability.

Having joined Corinthians at the age of six, Machado has progressed entirely through the club’s youth system — a pathway that often carries significant weight with European scouts.

Sources in Brazil suggest Machado could soon be included in senior matchday squads for both the State Championship and the Brazilian league, marking another milestone in his rapid ascent.
