Liverpool manager Arne Slot has shared his thoughts on a scheduling issue concerning Arsenal ahead of their match against Everton.

Slot, speaking after his team’s 1-0 victory over Merseyside rivals Everton on Wednesday, pointed out a potential disadvantage for the Toffees in their upcoming clash with Arsenal. Everton, who were unbeaten in their last six matches before facing Liverpool, will now turn their attention to hosting Arsenal this Saturday. While the Toffees have been tough to beat under manager David Moyes, their recent form has seen them draw more than win.

One notable scheduling quirk is that Arsenal played Fulham on Tuesday, while Everton didn’t face Liverpool until Wednesday. This means Arsenal has an extra 24 hours to recover before their Saturday encounter.

Slot was asked about this situation during his press conference on Thursday and stated: “It’s an unusual situation, and it would have been fairer if all four teams played on the same day. But we’ve had more than enough rest ahead of our Sunday game, so it’s not an issue for us.”

This scheduling issue could have an impact on Everton's preparation but isn’t a concern for Slot’s side as they focus on their own title charge.

“I feel for Everton that they play on a Wednesday night and have the early kick-off on Saturday. The good thing is that they play at home, and I know how much their fans can influence the game.”

Given Liverpool’s clear advantage at this stage, it’s a little unexpected that Slot got involved in this debate, or even sparked the debate. It does feel like an unnecessary step given the lack of real title race.
