Ange Postecoglou insists dealing with negativity is nothing new for him as he targets his first win in charge of Nottingham Forest at the third attempt. The 60-year-old Australian, appointed earlier this month, has endured a tough start, with defeats to Arsenal in the Premier League and Swansea City in the Carabao Cup leaving Forest under pressure ahead of a crunch clash at Burnley.
Forest were beaten 3-0 at the Emirates before collapsing from a two-goal lead in South Wales to lose 3-2 in midweek. That result intensified scrutiny around Postecoglou’s appointment, but the former Tottenham boss is adamant his focus is purely on turning around results rather than silencing critics.
“There has been a negativity around my arrival since I came to the Premier League. It is the constant space I am in. But it is not about me,” Postecoglou said. “It is important that we win on Saturday. Not for me. But because we have lost the last two games in the Premier League. Every game in the Premier League is tough and you never want to be in a position where you have not won, because then you can start chasing the game a little bit.”
Forest under pressure after tricky start
The Reds have collected just four points so far this season and face a demanding schedule. Saturday’s trip to Turf Moor is the third of four consecutive away fixtures, followed by their Europa League opener at Real Betis next week.
“You can’t assess these things before you make a decision, but I knew what I was heading into with four away games on the trot – and challenging ones at that,” Postecoglou admitted. “But you also know it’s a great opportunity to embed some principles. The key for me is to implement everything we want to implement but not forsaking the most important thing, which is getting results.”
The message is clear: while philosophy matters, Forest must pick up points quickly to avoid being dragged further down the table.
Injury concern over Murillo
Forest could also be without one of their defensive pillars at Burnley. Brazilian centre-back Murillo is a doubt after sustaining a knock against Arsenal, which kept him out of the cup defeat at Swansea. A late fitness test will determine if he is available for Turf Moor.
“It’s exciting. Certainly, it’s pushing me and pushing the coaches. It’s pushing the players for us to gel as quickly as possible and make sure we get some positive results.” — Ange Postecoglou
Analyst verdict: results must arrive quickly
FootballPlace analyst John William believes Postecoglou has little margin for error:
“Ange is right to stress that negativity is part of the Premier League environment, but Forest fans want points on the board. The performances against Arsenal and Swansea showed glimpses of attacking promise but also defensive fragility. Burnley away is not an easy fixture, yet it already feels like a must-win given the run of games ahead. With Betis on the horizon in Europe, the pressure to deliver is mounting.”

What’s next for Nottingham Forest?
Forest kick off against Burnley at Turf Moor on Saturday at 3pm in what already feels like a pivotal moment for Postecoglou’s early reign. A win would ease pressure and build confidence before the European adventure begins.
If the Reds fail to turn the tide quickly, however, questions about Postecoglou’s appointment will only grow louder. For now, the Australian is determined to block out the noise and focus on building momentum in a tough run of fixtures.
