Anel Ahmedhodzic set for Burnley move as Feyenoord agree €7m deal

Anel Ahmedhodzic is closing in on a move from Feyenoord to Burnley, with the Rotterdam club reportedly set to receive around €7m before bonuses for the Bosnia and Herzegovina defender.

An agreement between the clubs had already been reported, but De Telegraaf has now provided further details of the financial package as the 27-year-old prepares to return to English football.

According to De Telegraaf, Burnley will pay Feyenoord approximately €7m for Ahmedhodzic, excluding potential bonuses.

The agreement also contains an undisclosed sell-on percentage, giving Feyenoord the opportunity to earn additional money if Burnley eventually sell the centre-back.

For Feyenoord, the guaranteed fee means the club are effectively recovering the money invested in Ahmedhodzic just one year ago.

The Rotterdam side paid around €6.9m to sign the defender, meaning his departure for €7m ensures they avoid making a loss on the initial transfer fee. Bonuses could turn the deal into a modest profit, even before any future sell-on income is considered.

The transfer will see Ahmedhodzic return to a familiar environment after his previous spell in English football.

Burnley are rebuilding following their relegation from the Premier League and have now moved to strengthen their defensive options with an experienced centre-back.

There had already been a strong indication that Ahmedhodzic was heading for the Feyenoord exit.

He was left out of the matchday squad against Go Ahead Eagles last weekend, when Feyenoord were held to a 2-2 draw at home.

With an agreement now in place, that absence appears to have come as preparations for his transfer gathered pace.

Ahmedhodzic's time in Rotterdam is therefore set to end after just a single campaign.

The Bosnia and Herzegovina international made 36 appearances for Feyenoord during his first season at the club, but he will now leave without beginning a second full campaign.

Financially, Feyenoord have protected their original investment while also negotiating potential additional income through bonuses and the sell-on clause.

For Burnley, the deal brings Ahmedhodzic back to England as they reshape their squad following relegation.

Ahmedhodzic is now expected to complete his move back to England once the remaining formalities are concluded.

For Feyenoord, attention will turn to their defensive options following the departure of a player who featured 36 times last season. Burnley, meanwhile, are set to add a defender with previous experience of English football as they prepare for life outside the Premier League.
