Manchester United could face a transfer dilemma this summer after Trabzonspor indicated they will not meet the club’s asking price for goalkeeper André Onana.

The Cameroon international joined the Turkish side on loan for the 2025/26 season following a difficult spell at Old Trafford. However, the prospect of a permanent deal now appears uncertain due to the financial demands involved.

Trabzonspor officials have confirmed the club cannot afford the fee Manchester United are believed to be seeking for the goalkeeper.

Trabzonspor unwilling to meet Manchester United valuation for André Onana

Onana originally moved to Manchester United from Inter Milan in July 2023 for a fee reported to be around £43.8 million.

After inconsistent performances during his time in England, United signed Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp, a move that allowed Onana to leave on loan in September.

While the goalkeeper has featured regularly in Turkey, Trabzonspor have now publicly addressed the financial reality surrounding a potential transfer.

“As the figure from Manchester United for the purchase of André Onana is in the range of €45–50 million, our president has sincerely informed the community in line with Trabzonspor’s realities.” — Zeyyat Kafkas, Trabzonspor vice-president

That valuation effectively places the goalkeeper beyond the Turkish club’s current financial capacity.

Onana future uncertain despite regular appearances in Turkey

The 28-year-old has made 21 appearances for Trabzonspor so far this season, experiencing mixed performances but remaining an important part of the squad.

Trabzonspor manager Fatih Tekke acknowledged that the goalkeeper’s form has varied but praised his attitude within the team.

“There have been matches where he didn’t play well. There have also been many matches where he played well. I’m very pleased with Onana’s positivity.”

Despite enjoying his time in Turkey, reports suggest Onana still hopes to continue his career at a European club should he leave Manchester United permanently.

Manchester United decision looming

Manchester United must now determine whether to adjust their valuation if they wish to secure a permanent transfer for the goalkeeper this summer.

Alternatively, the club could reintegrate him into the squad if circumstances change.

Having followed United’s squad developments closely this season, the goalkeeping position has already undergone significant change following Lammens’ arrival.

However, it remains too early to determine whether Onana will receive another opportunity at Old Trafford.
