Amorim sends ‘lack of quality’ message after Nottingham Forest defeat

Manchester United suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest at the City Ground in the Premier League on Tuesday night.

The game's defining moment arrived early, when Anthony Elanga produced a brilliant strike, leaving United scrambling to respond.

Elanga, a former United player, made an electrifying 85-meter sprint in just 9 seconds, outpacing Alejandro Garnacho and Patrick Dorgu before delivering a low strike past Andre Onana with clinical precision.

Speaking to TNT Sports (via BBC Sport), Elanga reflected on the game: “We had a lot of shots on goal, we pushed the opponent to the last third, but in the last third we had a lack of quality. We need to win games and we deserved more in this game, that is clear, but it is our fault and we need to be better in the last third. We should have won this game, not even drawn, but in the end we have lost three points.”

Despite dominating possession with 68% and firing 23 shots on goal, Manchester United couldn’t find the back of the net, while Forest had just eight shots. United also completed twice as many passes as their opponents, but it wasn’t enough to secure the win.

Elanga was a constant threat whenever he had space and the ball at his feet. He nearly added another goal late in the match, but Leny Yoro made a brilliant sliding challenge to deny him.

It’s believed that the post-match remarks from Amorim were aimed at United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe. Despite making several attacking substitutions, Amorim’s side couldn’t find the equalizer, highlighting the team’s struggles in front of goal.

The need for reinforcements was evident, especially when Amorim had to turn to Harry Maguire as a makeshift striker. Alejandro Garnacho’s poor performance further emphasized the lack of options available to the manager.

With the season progressing, it’s clear that Ratcliffe and his team must address the team’s “lack of quality” in the summer transfer window.

Currently sitting in 13th place, United’s position is looking fragile. Should Tottenham Hotspur and Everton win their games in hand, United could slip further down to 15th.
