Alpha Touré has described West Ham United’s interest as “flattering” and admitted the Premier League remains a dream destination, though he insists his immediate focus remains with FC Metz.

The 20-year-old defensive midfielder was the subject of serious interest from West Ham during the winter window. Reports in France suggested a €7 million bid was submitted in January, but Metz were unwilling to sanction a move at that valuation.

Alpha Touré reacts to West Ham transfer interest

Speaking to Africa Foot, Touré reflected positively on the attention from England.

“It’s always flattering when clubs like West Ham or Beşiktaş show interest in me,” he said. “It shows that I still have to work hard. But I’m under contract with Metz and I’m very focused on my season. I leave that to my representatives and the club.

“I’m concentrating on the pitch. As long as I’m wearing the Metz shirt, I give 100%.”

West Ham were reportedly preparing an improved offer before the window closed but ultimately did not complete a deal. Beşiktaş were also credited with interest, although the midfielder appears more drawn to England.

“The Premier League is a very intense championship, with a lot of pace and impact. It’s a dream for many players. But one thing at a time.”

Rapid development at Metz

Touré joined Metz from Génération Foot in July 2024 and initially featured in the club’s youth setup before progressing quickly to senior football. He has made 44 appearances in all competitions, including 24 this season.

“I think it’s been a learning season,” he said. “I’ve improved a lot tactically and mentally. I work every day to earn the coach’s trust. I know I can still do better.

“It’s gratifying, but I’m staying focused. The most important thing is hard work and consistency. Talent alone isn’t enough.”

Having followed Metz’s development pipeline in recent seasons, the club has increasingly positioned itself as a stepping stone for young African talent seeking progression to Europe’s top leagues.

West Ham’s situation may matter

West Ham’s league position could influence any future pursuit. The London club currently sit in the relegation zone, and remaining in the Premier League may be crucial if they hope to revive negotiations in the summer.

Touré is under contract until 2028, giving Metz leverage in any talks.

“My future? To continue progressing here, to help the club achieve its goals, and perhaps even make history like some of the great Senegalese players before me,” he added. “After that, football evolves quickly; we’ll see what the future holds.”

What’s next

West Ham could revisit their interest in the summer window, particularly if they secure their Premier League status. Metz, meanwhile, are likely to demand a higher fee than the January offer.

For Touré, sustained performance and consistency will determine how quickly that dream move becomes realistic.

Should West Ham return for Touré in the summer, or prioritise experience amid their survival battle?
