Alex Jiménez says life at Bournemouth feels “more relaxed” after a turbulent exit from AC Milan, with the Spaniard praising the Cherries’ supporters for backing him “through thick and thin”.

The 20-year-old initially joined on loan in September before Bournemouth moved to make the deal permanent following a series of assured performances. He has since featured 25 times in all competitions, quickly establishing himself within Andoni Iraola’s system.

In an interview with Gianluca Di Marzio, Jiménez described the Premier League as the ideal stage for his attributes.

“It’s a dream for me to play in the Premier League. I’m happy with my current situation.

It’s true, the Premier League is more physical than Serie A and La Liga, but I feel very comfortable here. My main quality is speed, and this is the right environment to express it.”

Having developed at Real Madrid and later AC Milan, Jiménez is accustomed to high-pressure environments. He admitted the contrast on the south coast has been significant.

“I grew up at the two biggest clubs in the world. Here at Bournemouth, life is more relaxed, there’s less pressure. The fans are always by our side, through thick and thin.” — Alex Jiménez

Milan frustration explained

Jiménez revealed he had not intended to leave Milan but felt overlooked at the start of the campaign.

“I had a great time at Milan: I didn’t want to leave. But when the season started, I realised I wouldn’t be a key player. There were several situations I didn’t appreciate.”

He pointed to a perceived lack of trust, even citing a symbolic request that was denied.

“At the start of the season, I asked for the number 2 shirt. I wanted it for the tradition of great full-backs. They said no, they said I wasn’t ready, that I was too immature. They were wrong.”

Reports in Italy had previously suggested disciplinary concerns during his final months in Milan. Jiménez acknowledged losing concentration at times but suggested the breakdown in belief played a role.

From Bournemouth’s perspective, the switch has been mutually beneficial. His versatility and pace have added tactical flexibility, while the calmer setting appears to have stabilised his development.

However, sustained consistency will determine whether this represents a long-term breakthrough rather than a short-term resurgence.
