Alan Shearer believes cracks are beginning to show in Arsenal’s title charge and has predicted the Premier League race will ultimately be decided when Manchester City host the Gunners in April.

Arsenal surrendered a two goal lead in a 2-2 draw at Wolves on 18 February 2026, missing the chance to open a seven point gap at the top. The result has allowed Manchester City to close in, with Pep Guardiola’s side able to reduce the deficit to two points this weekend.

Alan Shearer questions Arsenal’s mentality

Speaking to Betfair, Shearer suggested the late collapse at Molineux exposed growing pressure within Mikel Arteta’s squad.

“Cracks are starting to show now for Arsenal,” Shearer said.

“Being 2-0 up and then being pegged back by the team bottom of the Premier League in Wolves, it doesn’t look good.”

He added that Arsenal may struggle with the mounting narrative around “bottling” the title.
“They probably haven’t liked people going on about them chucking it away, and the pressure being on them. Well, they won’t like what’ll happen in the next few days now.”

Arsenal have now dropped seven points from winning positions in 2026, more than any side except Crystal Palace and West Ham.

Etihad clash seen as defining moment

Despite the criticism, Shearer believes the title remains in Arsenal’s hands — but only if they respond.

“If they win every game, they win the league,” he said. “But I guess it’s probably going to come down to that game in April.”

Manchester City’s victory at Anfield earlier this month was described by Shearer as a “game changer”, strengthening belief inside the City camp.

Having followed both sides’ recent performances, momentum appears to be shifting slightly toward City, although the margins remain tight.

However, it remains too early to draw firm conclusions with multiple high-pressure fixtures ahead.

What’s Next

Arsenal travel to Tottenham on 23 February 2026 in a North London derby that could define the mood around their campaign. Manchester City host Newcastle United on 21 February, knowing victory would intensify pressure at the summit.

With both teams still to face each other at the Etihad in April, the title race remains finely balanced.

Will Arsenal steady themselves, or is the psychological advantage now with Manchester City?
