Liverpool’s pursuit of a new left-back has intensified, with the club reportedly turning their attention to Wolverhampton Wanderers' star, Rayan Ait-Nouri. The 23-year-old has become one of the Premier League’s standout performers, drawing comparisons to fellow target Milos Kerkez of Bournemouth. However, Ait-Nouri, valued at £51m, may be a better fit for Arne Slot’s system.

Liverpool’s Interest in Ait-Nouri and Kerkez: What’s the Difference?

With the need to reinforce their defense, Liverpool has been scouting both Ait-Nouri and Kerkez as potential signings. Milos Kerkez, who is valued at £45m, has also been under the radar of Liverpool’s recruitment team, but Ait-Nouri, despite a higher price tag, could be the more dynamic option. Ait-Nouri's blend of athleticism, attacking quality, and defensive discipline is exactly what Liverpool is looking for as they aim to return to the top of European football.

Ait-Nouri vs Kerkez: Key Stats Comparison

Statistic Ait-Nouri Kerkez
Matches (Starts) 33 (33) 34 (34)
Goals 4 2
Assists 7 5
Dribbles 1.6 0.6
Ball Recoveries 4.0 4.5
Tackles + Interceptions 3.2 2.6
Duels Won 5.8 (54%) 4.1 (53%)

Why Ait-Nouri Could Be the Better Fit for Liverpool

Comparing Ait-Nouri and Kerkez, the Wolves star outperforms the Bournemouth left-back in a variety of important metrics. Not only does Ait-Nouri score more goals (4 vs 2) and create more assists (7 vs 5), but he also shows more energy and attacking flair, completing significantly more dribbles per game (1.6 vs 0.6). In terms of defensive contribution, Ait-Nouri has a slightly better tackle and interception rate, making him a more well-rounded choice.

But it’s not just stats that make Ait-Nouri an appealing target for Liverpool. His performances have caught the eye of experts as well. He was hailed as "one of the Premier League’s best players in 2024" by Sky Sports' Dougie Critchley, highlighting how Ait-Nouri has continued to improve under Vitor Pereira.

His standout performance against Mohamed Salah and Liverpool in February further exemplifies his quality. Ait-Nouri effectively subdued the Liverpool winger, helping Wolves secure a crucial 1-0 win, where he also contributed with key passes, tackles, and duels won.

Ait-Nouri: The Tactical Fit for Arne Slot’s System

Rayan Ait-Nouri’s technical and tactical qualities are well-suited to Klopp’s pressing, high-energy system. His work-rate, ability to join the attack, and sharp decision-making make him the perfect candidate to thrive in Liverpool's fast-paced, high-pressing game. His defensive tenacity and ability to recover the ball in key areas also align perfectly with the demands of Liverpool's full-backs.

The £51m price tag might seem steep, but for a player of Ait-Nouri’s caliber—and given Liverpool's needs in the left-back position—it could be a worthwhile investment. Ait-Nouri is still developing, but with the experience he’s gained in the Premier League, he is poised to become one of the top left-backs in Europe.

Ait-Nouri stats are way better and even in a team that's not better than Bournemouth (I think). This is a good comparison and article. I think I would go for Air-Nouri as well, you just forget about a player because he's playing with all respect for Wolves.

How about that lad from Fulham? Isn’t he top 3 in the PL with assists? Forgot his name.
