Aiden McGeady expects bigger clubs to notice Keith Andrews after Brentford impact

Aiden McGeady admits Keith Andrews has surprised him with the impact he has made at Brentford and believes bigger Premier League clubs could eventually start looking at the Irish manager.

Speaking to BOYLE Sports, McGeady revealed he initially had doubts when Brentford promoted Andrews, who had previously worked as Thomas Frank’s set-piece coach and had no senior managerial experience.

Those concerns have quickly disappeared, with Brentford making an impressive start under Andrews and remaining unbeaten in the Premier League following their emphatic 3-0 victory over Chelsea.

“I was really surprised when Keith got the job,” McGeady told BOYLE Sports. “I was unsure of how it was going to go because he’d never managed before.”

McGeady now believes Andrews has done a “fantastic job” and warned that continued success could attract attention elsewhere.

“When young managers are doing well at smaller clubs in the Premier League, bigger clubs will be sniffing around them,” he said.

However, McGeady does not expect Andrews to be desperate for an immediate move.

He believes the 46-year-old values the control and autonomy Brentford provide, particularly around team selection and recruitment, while the club's established structure appears well suited to his approach.

After Brentford’s unbeaten opening to the season and statement victory against Chelsea, Andrews’ unconventional appointment is increasingly looking justified.

McGeady also discussed Brentford assistant Damien Duff and believes the former Chelsea winger will eventually return to management.

Duff previously managed Shelbourne in Ireland before leaving following a breakdown in his relationship with the club’s hierarchy. He is now part of Andrews’ coaching staff at Brentford.

McGeady believes one potential route into Premier League management could emerge if Andrews eventually leaves and Duff is given the opportunity to replace him.

Otherwise, he considers a Championship job a more realistic next step, allowing Duff to rebuild his managerial career before potentially earning a Premier League opportunity.

For now, both remain part of a Brentford setup whose early-season performances are beginning to attract attention.

Andrews’ immediate challenge is maintaining Brentford’s excellent start as expectations inevitably increase following their early results.

Duff, meanwhile, can continue developing as part of Andrews’ staff, with McGeady expecting the former Republic of Ireland international to eventually pursue another managerial opportunity.
