Kalvin Phillips is reportedly eager to make a return to Leeds United this summer, with Manchester City ready to let the England international leave permanently.
The 29-year-old midfielder came through the youth ranks at Elland Road and went on to make over 200 appearances for Leeds United, becoming a key figure in the club’s return to the Premier League under Marcelo Bielsa. His performances were instrumental during Leeds' promotion season, and he was pivotal in their Premier League campaign, catching the attention of Manchester City.
Phillips’ standout performances at Leeds earned him a £45m move to the Etihad, but his time under Pep Guardiola has been less than ideal. Since making the move to City, Phillips has struggled to secure a regular spot in the first team, often finding himself on the sidelines. His journey has seen him loaned out to West Ham in January 2024 and later to Ipswich Town for the current campaign.
It’s clear that Phillips has been unable to rediscover his top form after leaving Leeds, and unfortunately, the club’s trajectory has also taken a downward turn since his departure. However, there’s a growing sense that a reunion with Leeds United could benefit both Phillips and the club.
With Leeds looking to secure their Premier League return, they will need to strengthen their midfield. Phillips' experience and knowledge of the club could be exactly what the team needs as they aim for promotion. His previous connection with the club, combined with his undying love for Leeds, would undoubtedly drive him to succeed if given the opportunity to return.
Given the right fee, a Phillips reunion seems like a sensible option for Leeds. If they manage to clinch promotion, bringing in proven players like Phillips could make a difference in their Premier League survival hopes.
For now, Leeds United's sole focus remains on securing automatic promotion as they battle at the top of the Championship. After seeing their lead reduce in recent weeks, all attention will be on their upcoming match against Swansea City after the international break.
Kalvin Phillips' Leeds United Stats:
Appearances: 233
Goals: 14
Assists: 15
Key Contributions: Phillips was a crucial part of the midfield, showcasing his excellent passing range, vision, and defensive awareness. His leadership in midfield was key during the 2019-2020 season when Leeds won promotion to the Premier League, with Phillips being named the club's Player of the Season.
Do you think a return to Leeds United would be the right move for Kalvin Phillips? How do you think he could impact the team if they secure promotion to the Premier League?

i don't think this is going to work. He hasn't played a lot of games and if he played, nothing special as it was before for Leeds.
